When you're a freelancer or small service provider

You don't need a full invoicing suite, just a clear bill for the work you did or the thing you sold. The client says "send me a proper invoice." Or you've mixed services and products in one project and need one document that shows the breakdown. Maybe you took an advance and now you're billing the balance. A simple bill with your name, their name, what was done, amount, and payment details is enough for them to pay and for you to keep records.

On A2ZBills you create the bill: your details, client name, date, description of services or items, amounts, advance (if any), and total. One PDF. Flexible so you can adapt it to consulting, one-off jobs, or mixed product-and-service sales.

What clients usually want on the bill

Who you are, who they are, date, what was delivered (services or goods), amount, and how they paid or will pay. Line items help when the work had phases or mixed products and services. If you took an advance, show it so the balance due is obvious.

    Showing advance and balance

Put "Advance received: ₹X" and "Balance: ₹Y" so the total ties to what you're asking for. Avoids "I already paid you" confusion. Same idea if you're billing in stages: show what's done, what's paid, what's due.

Creating a general bill on A2ZBills

Sign up, enter your name and address, client name, date, then add line items (description, amount). Add advance or discount if needed. Generate and download. Suits freelancers, consultants, and small providers who need a clean bill without buying heavy software.

    Share bills on WhatsApp

Every bill you generate is saved to your A2ZBills dashboard. Share via WhatsApp with one tap — send the PDF link when your customer or client asks for a copy.

    • Dashboard — open any saved bill and tap Share on WhatsApp
    • After download — WhatsApp appears next to Download in the preview toolbar once the bill is saved

    Collect payment with UPI QR

Freelancers and small sellers often send a PDF and follow up for UPI payment — add a QR on the bill so the amount is pre-filled.

    1. Turn on UPI payment QR in the form and enter your UPI ID (prefills from your profile).
    2. Download the PDF — a scannable QR appears on the bill with the total amount.
    3. Your customer scans the QR with PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or any UPI app — no manual amount entry.

Pair with WhatsApp sharing above to send the bill link after download; the PDF itself carries the QR for scan-to-pay.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a UPI QR code on the bill?

Yes. Turn on UPI payment QR and enter your UPI ID, then download the PDF — the QR prints on the bill with the amount filled in. Your customer scans it with any UPI app to pay.

Can I use this for freelance or consulting work?

Yes. Enter your name, client name, date, describe the work or deliverables, add the amount. You can add multiple lines for different phases or items. Generate the PDF and send it to the client for payment or records.

What if my bill has both products and services?

Add each as a line item: e.g. "Consulting - Phase 1" and "Software licence". The total is the sum. If you're GST-registered and need tax on the invoice, use the GST bill generator instead so you can apply HSN/SAC and tax per line.

How do I show advance payment on the bill?

Add a line for "Advance received" or "Amount paid in advance" and subtract it from the total so the balance due is clear. Keeps you and the client aligned.

When would I use a general bill instead of a GST invoice?

Use a general bill when you don't need to charge or show GST (e.g. small freelancers below the threshold, or informal arrangements). When you're GST-registered and the buyer needs a tax invoice for ITC, use the GST bill generator.

Do I need to maintain all downloaded bills offline in my mobile or laptop?

No. Every bill you generate is saved automatically in your Bill History on the A2ZBills dashboard. You can view, re-download, duplicate or share any bill at any time via WhatsApp—no need to manually save files or track PDFs locally or via email. The dashboard takes care of it all.

Can I track which bills have been paid?

Yes. The dashboard includes payment tracking where you can mark any bill as Paid, Unpaid, or Partially Paid. Outstanding invoices are visible at a glance, and you can track payment status across customers and bills—all without a separate accounting tool.
